**This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), Office Surveillance and Biometrics (OSB), Division of Postmarket Surveillance, Information Analysis Branch in Silver Spring, Maryland.

A variety of regulatory programs impacted by this position includes medical device adverse event reporting, recalls, allegations of regulatory misconduct and compliance status of regulated industry. The position provides organizational units with sophisticated data analysis tools to identify public health and operational issues to protect patients and consumers, and strive toward peak effectiveness and efficiency.**

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the overall integrity and accuracy of the information and data in the system and is recognized as an authority for the types of regulatory and scientific data contained in the system.
  • Exercise technical knowledge of the limitations of proven computer science concepts and practices, and standard mathematical methods and algorithms on systems, equipment, and/or software to correctly evaluate problem resolution alternatives or risks.
  • Plan and execute device identifier record life cycle computer software development and management for adverse event reporting system.
  • Provide technical guidance and application software support for scientific computing in areas such as sequence analysis, linkage analysis, and database design, specifically adverse event reporting system.
  • Prepare written and verbal reports describing developed systems and the general application of database technology for use by management.
  • Work with other data quality analysts across FDA to ensure that processes and targeted data elements are consistent across Agency data quality efforts.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for Computer Scientist, 1550, at GS - 12, you must meet the following:

BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:

You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal services which includes assisting with the analysis of database needs to recommend new or existing data analytics packages and applications; and conducting a quality review of technical data in a database to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Education

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
