Marketing Statement Supervisor Accounting Accounts Receivable:
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is seeking a highly responsible and skilled Accounting Supervisor Account Receivable to join our General Ledger Accounting Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for revenue recognition, maintaining policies and procedures for billing, accounting for bad debts, collections and cash applications. The role includes providing training, assigning tasks, communicating expectations, preparing staff performance appraisals and implementing disciplinary measures. He/she will need to ensure that all account reconciliations for AR are completed timely, are supported by adequate documentation and unreconciled items are cleared in a timely fashion. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations, providing support for month, quarter and year-end closes; as well as facilitating External Audits.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration, finance or a related field. An advanced degree or certification in the fields of accounting, auditing or management is highly preferred. A minimum of eight (8) years of considerable and progressive responsible experience in accounting operations, planning/execution, financial management or management analysis, applicable to the assigned section, in a large complex organization using manual and automated financial systems preferably with experience in both private and government accounting, with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience in a accounting/financial environment. Experience with PeopleSoft, SAP or other enterprise-wide software applications would be a significant plus.
Or, the successful completion of some post-secondary school in accounting, business administration, finance or a related filed plus a minimum of ten (10) years of considerable and progressive experience accounting operations, planning/execution, financial management, or management analysis, applicable to the assigned section, in a large complex organization using manual and automated financial systems preferably with experience in both private and government accounting, with at least two (3) years of supervisory experience in a accounting/financial environment. Experience with PeopleSoft, SAP or other enterprise -wide software applications would be a significant plus.

This is a senior level supervisory, professional, technical, and administrative work of a complex nature requiring effective and efficient skills in the areas of financial management and reporting, accounting research and analysis, financial statement preparation, and project management. This position oversees, facilitates and implements the processing and recording of financial transactions in accordance with accounting policies and procedures for a major accounting segment in the areas of Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Capital Reporting or Project Accounting. Employee must be pro-active in identifying business solutions, can improve and streamline processes and create opportunities for enhanced customer service. Incumbent must possess a degree of creativity, foresight and mature judgment in planning, organizing coordinating, communicating and solving various financial and management issues.
Performs difficult supervisory, professional, technical and administrative work for one of the organizational sections: Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Capital Reporting or Project. This work includes the functional duties common to each section as well as those additional duties that are specific to the incumbent’s designated organizational section.
Supervise data control operations including the approval of documents and batch processing control; implement modifications to improve systems and participate in the development and testing of new systems.
Manages, coordinates and evaluates all general ledger functions including month end and year end close, financial statement preparation, yearly financial and A133 audits, compliance reporting and in-depth research and analysis.
Plans and supervises the work of an accounting unit engaged in the maintenance of complex accounting records and other activities related to payments of and invoices, billing and receipts of jurisdictional funds and the review, verification and the accounting of expenditures of jurisdictional funds.
Participate with managers and external auditors in the preparation of necessary working papers, exhibits and accounting documentation for the year-end closing of accounts.
Incumbent is responsible for verifying, producing and distributing pay information, ensuring the accuracy of all pay documents and supporting records in compliance with strict payroll timetables.
Oversees the analysis and reconciliation of accounts as well as timely processing of all necessary accounting adjustments needed to correct improperly recorded transactions.
Oversees the processing of the wage assignments system and levies against wages as well as ensuring timely and accurate reporting of payments for employers’ and employees’ withholding taxes, premiums and miscellaneous withholdings to appropriate agencies. Evaluates, develops and recommends changes in payroll systems and procedures.
Manages the grant the applications which provide appropriate controls over cost and funds.
Evaluates job performance and monitors and adjusts workload assignments to meet organizational deadlines.
Supervises subordinate staff to include recommending applicant selection regarding hiring, resolution of difficult problems, retention programs, approving leave request, assigning duties, directing work, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring appropriate training and preparedness in achieving section/branch goals.
Serves as Branch Manager when designated.
